Priority 12 Stroke Prevention, Diagnosis, Pre-hospital and Hospital Care

UNCERTAINTY: What effect does diet have on short and long-term outcomes for stroke survivors? (JLA PSP Priority 12)
Overall ranking 12
JLA question ID 0106/12a
Explanatory note

Diet in stroke recovery is a common and complex question that patients ask consultants, who have no current answer (from workshop discussions).

Original submissions behind this question cover issues such as the role of cholesterol, fats and supplements, as well as the impact and timing of nutritional support on recovery for stroke survivors. There are no high quality evidence reviews on the effect of diet on outcomes in stroke. Therefore evidence is required for clinical guidelines to appropriately address this very important area of care, of necessity to everyday living.
