Priority 3 from the Oral and Dental Health PSP

UNCERTAINTY: What are the most effective ways of increasing early detection/diagnosis of oral cancer? (JLA PSP Priority 3)
Overall ranking 3
JLA question ID 0079/3
Explanatory note Not available for this PSP
Evidence

Limited evidence to support diagnostic adjuncts to be used in primary care settings Low-quality evidence suggests that cytologic testing seems to be the most accurate adjunct among those included in this review. Biopsy and histopathologic assessment remain the single definitive test to diagnose PMDs and OSCC through detecting dysplasia.

For full details of the evidence checked, please see the spreadsheet of data held on the JLA website.
