Midwifery Practice and Maternity Care

Midwives are usually the first and main contact for women and birthing people during their pregnancy, throughout labour and the early postnatal period. They are responsible for providing care and helping them to make informed choices about their care.

About the Midwifery Practice and Maternity Care Priority Setting Partnership

Run by the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), the Midwifery Practice and Maternity Care Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) will work with women and birthing people, their families, friends, service user organisations, midwives and maternity support workers, to identify the unanswered questions about all areas or aspects of midwifery practice and agree which are the most important for research to address.

The PSP is a major project of the current RCM Research and Development strategy (.PDF)

The initial question gathering survey opened in January 2024 and is now closed. More information will be available when the interim priority setting survey opens.
