Overall ranking 9
JLA question ID 0049/9
Explanatory note A number of guidelines are relevant to this question. NICE Menopause Guideline, FSRH Contraception for women aged over 40years (updated 2017), NICE Fertility Guideline. The benefits and risks of contraception change with age- fertility – the chance of becoming pregnant declines – it is rare in women after 50, the risks to maternal health of pregnancy and childbirth increase, other health issues may influence their choice of contraception. The new FSRH guidelines has provided clearer management strategies but the evidence base for these recommendations is weak. (Grade approach)
